I've upgraded an older Presario from 98 to XP and
everything works fine except the 1394 port. Device
manager says there is no driver installed but I am under
the impression that XP has a 1394 driver. Help?

Did you install XP over 98, or install XP from
a clean install Gary? Yup, XP does install firewire
drivers. BUT may have got confused, if you
installed it over an existing version of 98.

Is the firewire card onboard? Or is it a PCI card
you installed? If its a PCI card, did it come with a
CD???

I have a similar problem. I built a computer and it
included firewire as part of the motherboard. It worked
fine untill I needed to reformat and reinstall windows
for other problems. Now it has stopped working. It doesnt
even show up under device manager. WinXP supposably has
the firewire drivers and all of the manufactuers of the
external devices or hardware say XP comes with it while
XP throws it back on them. I have tried to manually
install the card bus controller - but windows XP says it
doesnt have the drivers for it ANYWHERE on the XP cd, and
microsoft wont give out those drivers on their own online
or anywhere I can find. Maybe someone will have an answer
to this sometime. Ive been trying numerous things for
weeks - My friend suggested something might have gotten
turned off in the BIOS or something that would at least
make windows recognize it - but I havent found it yet -
Hopefully someone knows, and they can come to realize
that this is a real problem and not just an isolated
event or something of the kind.

If my memory is not faulty, I believe that both USB 2.0 and ieee 1394
[Firewire] were enabled in XP via Service Pack 1 [SP1].
Do you have it installed?
