I'm new in the field of newsgroups, but have got a lot out of this site in the last couple of weeks. However, my virus protector often prevents me from interacting, and I therefore wish to view this through my NNTP Newsreader. I use Outlook 2000. Anyway, my question is whether I need to list each and every section of interest in the Office Discussion Group in as a separate group, or whether I can view the whole site at once (which is much more preferable). I have interest in most of the Office products, so would like to see them all. If I have wrongly posted this query, I apologise, and would be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.

Outlook uses Outlook Express as its default newsreader. If you want to use
OE, you will have to add a news server -- you can use the one your ISP
provides, or you can use the free msnews.microsoft.com server to view the
Microsoft public newsgroups -- and then you can subscribe to each separate
newsgroup you want to look at. "microsoft.public.outlook.general" is just
one of the possible groups you can subscribe to.

Thanks Jocelyn. I have got this set up through my service provider. I can add microsoft.public.outlook but cannot add general - it just isn't there. There are lots of postings in microsoft.public.outlook and I can even see several of your postings/replies. However, I cannot see this thread. I can add microsoft.public.office but cannot drill further than that. Your continued assistance is appreciated. Thanks again in advance.

The news server provided by your ISP may not include all of the Microsoft
newsgroups. Try adding the msnews.microsoft.com news server and see if you
can find the other groups through it. When you are connected to the msnews
server and you click the Newsgroups button, you should get a list of all
available groups -- search for "general" and you should see
microsoft.public.outlook.general in the list.
