If anyone can recommend a better Newgroup to post this to
let me know.

I downloaded and installed NIS on my Compaq, xp desktop.
The pre-install scan found anc cleaned up a bunch of
files. After installing and rebooting, my computer
barely runs ie 3-4 minutes for a button click to
respond. I can open folders, but cannot launch any
programs. Have tried everything I can find on the
symantec site, whcih seems to suggest a driver conflict,
but none of their help topics address NIS 2004, so I
don't know what applies. I also upgraded from xp Home to
xp Professional (a 12 hour ordeal). Now I am about ready
to reformat and start over. Any ideas before I start
from scratch? Thank you,

Jim

Jim,
Can't really offer you any specific advice but can relate my own
experience. I had terrible trouble with NIS and NAV when trying to
install on my system with an upgraded OS - upgraded from W98SE to XP
Pro. The system did run mostly, but crashed frequently and was slow.

I bit the bullet and did a clean install of XP Pro and then installed
NIS/NAV. It ran and still runs like a dream - no problems whatsoever.

So from my experience, your proposal to start over just might fix the
problem with no other action. At the very least, you will rid your
system of a whole lot of junk, but will have to reinstall everything.

Just remember to save all your data and settings for all your software
and hardware`before starting! I thought I had done so, but some of
them were in very peculiar places and I missed them!
