While my NIS is on I get a Windows secuirty alert that my antivirus is not on
but it appears to be. Am I infected with something?

Ty for your response, 2007 not sure of how to find version. I have had this
since January and first time this has happened. Had something happen last
week turned on computer and it said Norton couldn't be loaded so i rebooted.

You can password-protect Norton AV and Personal Firewall so that it cannot
be disabled without entering the password. As long as AV Auto-protect is
enabled you are protected with NIS 2007 or prior versions.

On a more fundamental level, I wouldn't trust NIS to protect my PC/XT running
IBM DOS 1.1! It's the most useless AV ever released, and literally anything
else would be better.

The only reason it has such a large market share is because of 'push
marketing' in the shape of forced preinstalls.

AVG, Avira, Kaspersky, Avast, NOD32, any of those should do the job. Norton
corporate version is (surprisingly) pretty-much OK, it's the home versions
that suck. Other two which are possibly none too great are Panda and McAfee.

I have looked at all the options of NIS 2007 and see no way of password
protection of anything trying to disable Norton Antivirus. If anyone knows
of forum for NIS products I would glady move my question there, Where is this
password proctection feature in the product.

On NIS 2004 it is under "Help and Support|Symantec Help Center|Options".
Here it tells you how to set passwords on both NAV and NIS .
There should be similar instructions on NIS 2007.
