has anyone tried Norton Internet Security 2005
AntiSpyware Edition (beta) alongside with Microsoft
Antispyware (beta) are there any compatibility issue?

I would not recommend running a beta alongside a beta. Yes, I have heard
about Symantecs foray into the AntiSpyware business, but like I said, I
don't recommend testing beta alongside beta because of the possibility of
unknown conflicts that will give problems solving.

Two betas would be dangerous at best. I would trust the MSAS far more than
the Symantec beta as Symantec has been going downhill over the last few
years.

Well, its not necessarily that, but just running a multitude of betas on a
system can hav hazardous effects.

Compare it with to run more then one antivirus app with real
time protection.

I cant understand users that want to try Njortons bloaty
software.

For a long time ago Norton have a great app called PC tools.

it doesn't matter, Norton works perfectly for me, but for
the unlucky one find security appz that works for you.
Every suite is bloaty. if anyone is looking for a really
effective suite my pick is NIS 2005.

Well, I am not looking for suites, I am looking for effective
security apps for different purposes.

If you are happy with Norton som go on with their apps.

I personally prefer Norton Corporate Edition, very expensive though compared
Symantects retail solutions.

what appz are you using right now is, zonealarm or pc
chillin?

Free Firewalls (also if a user is behind a router):

For newbies/normal users without any knowledge or not
willing to learn
I only use SP2´s built in firewall.

Normal users/Advanced users willing to learn I recommend
either Zone Alarm or Kerios firewall.

About all I can say about this thread is "Where's the beef?"

I'll try loading Symantec's beta on my VPC of Windows 2000, SP4, which also
runs Microsoft Antispyware, and which lives dangerously--I try to visit any
site posted in these groups as "bad"--and some of them are!

If I have any problems, I'll post about it.

So far, it seems to do a better job than Microsoft Antispyware in some ways.

It found an Istbar lying around in program files on my VPC--it asked me to
initiate a scan, and it scanned just for istbar--total of 5 files scanned, I
think, and auto-quarantined. In fact--what happens is that
REMOVE=quarantine. Everything removed is automatically quarantined--good
move, I think.

So far, no conflicts between Microsoft Antispyware and Norton--lots of
messages from both about the other, but all of them made sense and were easy
to handle.

It has a quickscan and a full scan. And it doesn't scan cookies!

what's the direct link to get NIS?

The beta will expire on June 1, 2005. At this time you will need to uninstall
the Beta and re-install your prior Symantec product or purchase the full version
and install it.
