my firewall recently alerted, and there were 10 attempts with the
Nimda_Propragation virus??

Is this a rare or an older virus, and is it related to a trojan-type of an
attack?

any info would be appreciated.

Go to your favourate antivirus vendor's homepage and search their database
for nimda. You'll be surprised, I think.
