Nikon Firewire without Nikon adapter

I'm preparing to build a new computer soon, and I may end up with fewer
PCI slots in the bargain. If so, I would like to move my Coolscan IV to
the motherboard's native Firewire port and discontinue using the Nikon
card.

Has anyone experienced any issues in doing this?

Thanks.

I believe Nikon's only thinking in including a Firewire card with the
Coolscan
IV was that back in that timeframe people were often using computers w/o
firewire ports...you shouldn't have an issue. (Unlike my Coolscan LS-10
that
works the a Trantor T130B SCSI card ONLY...unless sent back to Nikon for
a firmware update (non-flashable).)

I've been doing this for approx 1 year now without problems - I am using the
built-in firewire port on an MSI mainboard to drive a Coolscan 4000ED. Can't
speak for any others though but at least it's one point on your graph ......

Not with the CS-IV, but I have been using the CS-4000 for quite a while
interfaced to one of the onboard Firewire ports of an Abit AI7
motherboard. No problems at all.

Thanks to all. I indeed meant the Coolscan 4000. The IV was USB only
and now resides in a drawer. I really should put it on ebay...
