As the SA-21 strip film adapter of the Nikon Coolscan 35mm scanner cuts
off part of the image, I bought an FH-3 film holder.

Much to my surprise, the holder is poorly designed: it doesn't shut
correctly at both ends, allowing for lateral movement of the negative
which makes for a crooked scanned image.

So I'm looking for an alternative. I know there's one guy, Doug Fisher,
who's been successful in designing replacement film holders for the
Epson 3200/4870 scanners. I contacted him and he's not interested until
he sees a demand for these film holders.

So, if you're looking for a replacement for the FH-3 film holder maybe
by contacting Doug directly, he might be persuaded to take a closer look
at the Nikon Coolscan film holders. Here's his email address:

The FH-3 should close at the ends - the black plastic inserts are
designed to clip together at the ends to hold the film securely. If
yours doesn't then it may be faulty, but check that you haven't just
pressed them together firmly enough - a slight twisting action helps.

Haven't been able to snag a FH-3, but if you are correct, then
I want a better alternative also!!

Yes, Socrates himself is particularly missed;

Hello

Yes a slight twist does help and there will be a audible click, when the
are locked.

Yes, now the only problem is finding an outlet in the United States that
has an FH-3 in stock! :(

Thanks. I know they had them for a week or so, but I missed that window
and they are now out of stock again. Hopefully Nikon will start shipping
them more regularly.
