I have 3 workstations (All windows XP Pro) and a windows
2000 server. Every morning the users come in and cannot
connect to the resources available on the server.

After a reboot of each of the workstations, each one is
fine through out the day. The same thing occurs overnight
and a required reboot is required.

I don't have any idea where to look for the problem.
Whether it is a setup problem on the workstation or on the
server. The workstations are exactly the same type with
exactly the same conponents. The server is a server class
machine with Windows 2000 Server, Active Directory, DNS,
WINS, File and print, and Backup Exec.

Hello,

are power saving features enabled on the workstations?
If so, that may be the culprit.

Go to the device manager.
Right click the network card, select Properties.
Go to the Power Management tab.
Check the setting of "Allow the computer to turn off this device to
save power".

If at first you don't succeed, forget skydiving

I have seen this happen when the power setting on the NIC is set. Try
turning off the power save function on the NIC.
