Well that was a sh*t scare & a half.
We were out hanging out the washing & John saw a flare with sparks etc on the power line where it joins the house. He went to get his torch & it had done it again before he got back. less than 3 minutes.
a big blue-white flare with plenty of sparks right up against the outside wall of our bedroom.
We called the power company & they sent a couple of blokes out who shut the power down & fixed it. one of the wires had pulled lose or something.
As the first guy said,
Lucky we saw it.
Lucky it wasn't raining (it was earlier today)
Lucky we'll wake up tomorrow.
Irony... the battery ran out on the smoke detector a month ago & we hadn't gotten around to replacing it.
Very lucky we'll wake up tomorrow.
scared me,
especially the 30+ mins waiting for the first guy to arrive (he had to come from mosgiel on the other side of Dunedin it turned out)
Got burnt once & had to have a bunch of skin on my left leg peeled off in strips
probably got a bit of a phobia about fire
but definitely don't want to die that way
even the thought gives me the sh*ts.
Lucky we decided to hang the washing out tonight instead of waiting for the morning.
Nice to be alive.
