NIC not supported

We have migrated to new hardware and now our startnet command is PE
doesn't allow us to do network installs. Netcfg -s shows no adaptors
or protocols. Does anyone know how to get PE to use the newer drivers
for the NIC card?

TIA

Terry,

You may want to post your question to microsoft.public.windowsxp.setup_deployment newsgroup.

Terry,
I'm not sure what you mean by network install -- do you mean moving images
between a development machine and target as described in some of the tutorials?
If so I had the same problem working with targets that have gigabit ethernet
which is poorly supported even in SP2. I found that BartPE was a good
substitute. I built a BartPE CD with Intel gigabit ethernet support that was a
good alternative to WinPE. It's also a great tool for general PC maintenance.

I believe you should build your own component containing driver files
for your NIC. You do have OEM setup disk, don't you?
Also search this NG to learn about some caveats you can encounter during
the component build process.

I am talking about moving the image over like you describe.
I built a bart PE Cd but still have no network adapter.
I am now trying to make a plug in to BartPE, any thoughts on how to
do this...?

it is an Intel e100b325 set adapter

Either way thanks for the helpful response Roger.

I only built BartPE once and it was about a year ago so I don't remember many
details. However I looked in the directories and I found plugin\nic_intelpro
which has an HTML file that describes how you provide the plugin support for
Intel 100/1000 NICs.

KM,
It's use is generally described further up this thread. At least one of the
tutorials provides scenarios for moving a pre-FBA image to the target and a
post-FBA image from the target by running WinPE on the target before and after
FBA to support networking. We are talking about cases where WinPE lacks the
necessary NIC support and BartPE can be configured with that NIC support as a
substitute.

Roger

Roger,

Well.... I must admit BartPE is easier to configure than WinPE. And mostly because of legal restrictions about modifying WinPE.

But after all, you can always create your own XPe (small) image to substitute WinPE/BartPE. You can include any drivers in that
image.

Roger,

I have also tried BartPE just because I was curious, nothing more.
Like Konstantin said if you are working with XPe then stick to the XPe till the end. (At least you will spend time on learning XPe
instead of other additional tools)

With XPe you have full freedom to make your installation program as you desire it.
