If i need to setup Windows 2000 server as NAT server, must i have 2
NICs ? I'm using ADSL. Thanks

Yes. You can implement RRAS for VPN on a single NIC machine, but not NAT.

Doug,
I found that RRAS NAT give the ip in the 192.168.0.0 and 255.255.0.0
but my network ip is in 192.168.0.1 and subnet 255.255.255.0, can it
change to suit my network ip ? When i changed it after clicked ok, it
will change back to its own again.

Yes, you can configure RRAS to give out any address range you wish from an
address pool or have it use an existing DHCP server. Probably, the subnet
mask discrepancy resulted from a typo when you configured the pool on the
server. The easiest way to fix it might be to disable RRAS and run the
wizard again.

Doug, i have fixed it. Just right click properties of the rras , top of
the tree there got a address pool i just modify it. Now i configure 2
NICs in my machine, one is internal and public. Internal i configured
private ip and public NIC i just left it blank with automatically
assgined. then my client just point it to the private ip, correct ?
Thanks

That should do it. If you have problems, check the DNS configuration.

Doug, I configured 2 NIC, one is private and another is external.
Private NIC i configured with local private address and external NIC
setting i left everything to ISP automatic provided. Do i have to do
anything in RRAS ? I setup NAT and add the 2 interfaces, private and
external. But my client point to the NAT ip , still won't works. Btw
how to make sure the IP of the NAT server is correct ?

Doug, how to check whether the NAT server is working or not ? using my
server i can up the internet, but not my client. Client can ping
server. Client can only point to one internal ip of the nic as another
nic do not have private ip. Correct ?

Yes (if I understand you correctly). On the server the LAN NIC should be
configured with a static private address - eg. 192.168.0.1 and this NIC
should NOT have a default gateway.

Client machines should use the server's LAN NIC address as their default
gateway - eg. 192.168.01 per above. To test this - on a client machine try
to ping a known unblocked Internet IP (try 216.239.57.99). If ping to an
Internet address works, then NAT is working. If ping to an IP address
works, but clients cannot browse the internet, then the problem is most
likely DNS - try manually configuring a client machine.

If ping to an internet IP does not work, then either NAT or client IP
settings are not properly configured.

Doug, isn;t that need 2 NICs on the server ? the other should be left
all setting blank ? I try to ping known public ip but not working. My
network uses 192.168.1.0 but in the NAT ip address pool, it listed as
192.168.0.0 ,subnet is correct. I tried to change it to 192.168.1.0 ?
but it won;t changed.

Doug, what type of services should be on in the server ? In the RRAS
nat, i dun see any traffic mapped, in or out the local LAN interface,
but for the external interface it has( connected from another client
machine) . Even if demand dial is not enabled, it should have some
traffic in the internal interface ? Is this correct ? I get event id #
31002 on the event viewer. pls help. thanks
