Is there a newsgroup reader that will group certain NGs together?
What I mean is that I have several different interests,ie:
Hamradio,genealogy,Dutch NGs and others.
I would like to separate them either with a header or a line between
the different groups.
I am using Netscape right now but this cannot do what I want.
Any suggestions?
Eskay.

Mostdecent newsreaders offer such a feature. In Xnews, these groups
are called folders. You may want to have a look at Xnews and see if
its folder function is what you're after.

Try 40Tude Dialog, also. It has the ability to place Spacer Bars between
any number of subscribed news groups, folders, mailboxes etc. to allow
segregation. Further, it allows you to assign news groups to Categories.
Theses Categories then become tabs at the top of one of the panes that you
can click on to view only those groups placed in the Category.

This recommendation will probably get same heat as some in this group think
Dialog shouldn't be considered freeware as each release has an expiration (
a fairly liberal period of time...the current release issued in 10/03
expires at the end of 04/03...by then a couple of releases will have
probably been issued). The author is active in the news.software.readers
group and he frequently updates the software (his answer as to the reason
for expiration is that once he fixes bugs or makes improvements, he doesn't
want a bunch of the older versions floating around or something to that
effect). I've used OE, XanaNews, Xnews, Agent, and just don't see how I
could live without the customization, scripting, scoring and GUI features
in Dialog. Lots of users post on the news.software.reader news group
(posting about the good and the bad) so if you need help, it's there.

I currently use Dialog in combo with two Hamsters Classic servers (probably
overkill).

well, there is a free add-on (plugin?) for Agent that does this
fine...it is called "Agent group order"...you can tell AGO to list your
'suscribed' groups in any order you wish..
No use, of course, unless you use Agent.

Were you using the Free Agent or the pay version? I'm curious as to
which version of Agent you are comparing Dialog to.

Sorry, Vic. I left off the "Free" part, as in "Free Agent". I haven't used
any commercial (pay) readers.

I apologize for appearing to have been commenting on something that I have
no good experience with.

See ya.

Correction:

The current release of Dialog expires at the end of 04/2004
(not 04/2003). :)

Sorry.
