Well longhorn could be 2005 or even 2006... depends on how they get on with
the yukon based file system.
Microsoft's already taken out longhorn PDC release still an early alpha but
its based on vision and win xp 2 is a sure no go.
And dont worry bout linux taking up corporations....
99% of the times its still used as a file server and they generally realise
what they lost when they moved to linux... its a very good OS... but still
at the end of the day user friendliness counts a lot....
plus the drivers.... its a nightmare trying to find the right driver... so
unless you are a hobbist or a corporate who can pay a lot of dough for
support... its very unlikely everythings gonna be on linux...
as for java... well it should have ruled the world a long time back.... its
good but there are places where you can use it....
they (sun) didnt want microsoft using java (atleast the way microsoft
wanted) and look at what happened... we have .net now....
if that was not bad enough have a look at
http://www.go-mono.com
thats the first non microsoft implementation of .net (microsoft gave those
guys a green)
it supports winforms and webforms and the beauty is that those guys write
GNOME (thats the linux windows manager)....
so you reckon we should be still programming for linux and java ?
