What should I upgrade next? I have a

2.6 Ghz PIII
1.0 gig PC1066 Rambus Ram
Radeon 9700PRO
60 GIG HARD DRIVE 7200 RPM
Audigy 2

I want to get good Doom III and Half-Life 2 performance and image quality.

I think that system will D3 and HL2 fine you got a 533mhz bus fair enough
its rambus memory but i think it will handle them ok just wait and see then
you can always upgrade if need be.

Your Radeon 9700 is NOT DX9 capable, which Doom III and HL2 will require. A
new generation of ATI and nVidia cards are due by June, so I'd wait.

You must be the only one with a PIII 2.6 !!!

Well buy a P4 3.4 :-)

Doh! Sorry it is a p4 2.6 ghz! Nooo, it is way too soon for a new processor
this system isn't that old! I wish I had those kinds of funds. I suppose I
could buy a new MOBO and Processor but could I use my 1.0 gig of ram--it
cost a pretty penny.

JG,
They should work so put your money in the bank and then upgrade only if the
games don't work like they should.

Hehe... so you are the new minister of information of iraq?

Get a bigger harddisk :) 160-200 GB are a lot cheaper now..
I can assure you your system is pretty good to play those games. If you set
it properly, ex no conflicts or loose driver files and crapped-up windows .

Pretty good system as-is. Howz your monitor?

Wrong.. 9700 is DX9 capable. You really should check before you give
misinformation like that.

Well, my monitor is a Planar 17inch gaming LCD with a 16ms total response
time. I also use a an old 19inch CRT if I'm playing something like 1942 or a
FPS. Yeah, my system is pretty maxed but I wish I could push my
anti-aliasing and ansiotropic filtering a little harder. After seeing how
sluggish HALO runs I started worrying that by the time HL2 and DoomIII hit
the streets my system won't be adequate. I'm thinking about selling off the
Radeon 9700pro and eventually getting whatever the top of the line card is
in june or july.

Thanks,
JG
