Next Record Field

I tried sending a post about an hour ago but it hasn't shown up yet...

I'm trying to use the Next Record field in a mail merge document that has 3 folder spines per page. The data source contains alphanumeric codes that are not sequential. I have previously used the next record field successfully in a text box for raffle tickets (5 to a page) however this time it is not working.

My current document has the text boxes at the bottom of the document (where a footer would show if I had one) but it is not in the actual footer. I've changed the margins of the footer to be as close to the bottom of the page as possible, however when I preview my merged document it comes up with an error something like you can't use the Next field in a footer, footnote, etc.

Can anyone help me? I'm willing to email the document if necessary.

Thanks!

The simplest way to do multiple documents per page is to set up a mailing
label merge, with appropriate 'label' format (create a custom one if
necessary) when Word does all the work.

You can't successfully put fields in text boxes - use a table (or frames)
instead which takes us back to the label merge (a table).

Graham's suggestion is good, if a table setup will work for you.

If you need "floating boxes" for some reason, do NOT try to use Textboxes
from the Drawing toolbar. Convert the ones you have into FRAMES, using the
button in the Format dialog box. Fields in textboxes are not recognized
correctly by Word.
