Anyone know when AMD is planning on slashing prices on Athlon 64 and X2
64 Chips?

About a week before I buy ('cause I'm waiting for it...) :)

A well-dressed man walks into a bar and asks a woman to sleep
with him for $1M. The woman is excited and she gives immediate
consent: "Of course I'll sleep with you!".
Then the man asks, "will you sleep with me for $5?". The woman
indignantly replies, "Of course not! What do you think I am?".
The man replies, "We've already established what you are; now
we're merely haggling over the price."

That's what always seems to happen to me :)

Ya same here except AMD64 prices sure don't seem to have dropped much
since my last upgrade. I bought a boxed newcastle 3200+ 14 months ago
and it's only dropped $22 (from same vendor) since then. I guess one
good thing is the chips have a better re-sale value then AMD chips had
in the past.

I remember building a friend a K6 system and telling him , just wait one
more week, but he wanted it today, the CPU dropped $20 two days later,
and then $2-$3 more every week after that, he didn't care, he was
already tired of waiting forever just to save a few $.$$.

Nope. I just built a brand new system around a A64X2 platform, but I'm
waiting until the chips become more reasonable in price before I buy.

Until then, my A64 3000+ (single core) will cover me...

Soon as they realizes that all rich people has bought it and now the only
left is the midium class people. I waited for it's releasing and after that
waited for it's availability in India and again for a price down. And when I
realized the price slash will take some time as there are a lot of rich
people in this world ready to buy it for that amount, I gave up my mind for
buying it. Next week I am buying a AMD 3200+(2) with Asus A8N SLI.

A few days before Intel announces their working dual processor...

That will be in about 3 years.....right after they announce their first true
consumer lever 64 bit processor (not a P4 running EM64T).
