I need a newsreader for downloading binaries from newsgroups. I like Windows
Mail for text but it is seriously lacking for binaries. What are people
using with Vista? With XP I had a very old version of Forte Agent which was
excellent but that version doesn't work in Vista.

Have you tried the latest version of Agent? Mind you I am not sure you can
use it beyond the trial period nowadays but you can try before you buy.
It's excellent at joining parts of binary posts together.
I also use XanaNews (http://www.wilsonc.demon.co.uk/xananews.htm) which is
excellent for text, I haven't tried it for binaries.

XanaNews. Free and excellent.

I'm using newsleecher v3.8 beta 7 on Vista X64 Ultimate. If you can find
it, newshark still works.

I use WM for binaries, pictures, movies, news, everything.
what problem are you having with Vista WM and binaries.

LOL thanks Chad. I already Googled er Live Searched. I was asking for
personal opinions.

It's inconenient to hilight then choose combine and decode, yenc is not
supported, the layout isn't well suited to displaying and navigating binary
groups. Don't get me wrong I have been using OE and now Windows Mail for
text goups for many years. I prefer it for text groups over anything else
I've tried. It just doesn't work for binary groups for me.

Although I really do hate the fact that every once in a while both OE and
Windows Mail don't check the spelling before sending :-)

I agree with the C & D, but it is not that much of a problem. I just select the first and then SHIFT click on last and let C & D do its thing, auto downloads and then combines.

the Yenc is a problem, but I use Yproxy and it works just fine.

Sometimes they don't reply without hitting the reply button also. I've been
meaning to bug that.

Thanks for everyone's responses. I went with Agent. It was a bit of a pain
to get running in Vista but eventually I figured it out.

Looks like its working well:

X-Newsreader: Microsoft Windows Mail 6.0.6000.16386
X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.0.6000.16386

The OP was seeking a news reader for binary groups, I use a different app
for binaries and text groups, each has different requirements.
