Newsreader Disappeared in Outlook 2003

I recently installed Office 2003 and followed the
instructions to start the Newsreader by going to option -
commands -> Go and dragging and dropping the News

command on the Go Menu. That was yesterday. Today, the
Newws command is gone from the Go menu and no longer
exists to be dragged from the Commands list in the
Options -> Go

Any ideas on where it went and how to get it back? This
seems like a real bug.
 
Set OE to be your default newsreader in Control Panel > Internet Options >
Programs. However, if OE prompts you to be the default news reader when you
start it, answer no, or you will lose your settings again.

I had the exact same problem. Is this bug due to be fixed (through some
download from office update maybe?)

I doubt it since it's easily fixed already. It's just a change in behavior
from previous versions.

I'm confused... I thought the problem was that when you set OE to be the
default news reader - which IS what we want here, that the link disappears
in Outlook. That sounds like a bug to me...

One man's bug is another man's lifelong companion. :-) To each his own
(though I tend to agree with you, the fix is probably more complicated and
costly than it seems on the surface or they'd certainly have done it by now)

....it could also have something to do with selling Outlook as a separate and
better email product. Some type of marketing ploy.

You do set OE to be the news reader. You do so in Control Panel. That's
what's changed from previous versions.
In no version has it ever been correct to set that option in OE.
