Hello

I hope I am missing something simple here but how do I see all the news
groups on MS outlook? I have been using Outlook Express and can see the
newsgroups in the folder list as normal but I have recently updated to MS
Outlook and cannot see how to access the News groups from the Outlook
program.

I have to return to OE to see the news groups - am I expecting too much from
MS Outlook?

advice appreciated

Michael

Outlook is no newsreader; it uses Outlook Express for this functioality.

There are several ways to access your newsgroups (which are actually in your
favorite newsreader, such as Outlook Express).

Here is one way to do it -- Create a new menu item. To do this,
1) Right-click in a clear area of Tool Bar
2) Choose "Customize"
3) Click on the "Commands" tab
4) Select "View" from the list of commands (from the list to the left)
5) Select "News" from the list of sub-commands (in the list to the right)
6) hold down the left mouse button and drag toward the Main Menu. When you
have found where you want it (a black vertical line will appear to the left
of where it will be placed), let go of the left mouse button. The command
will appear.

To access your new command, just left-click on it, as you would any Main
Menu command.

Outlook already HAS a menu item for this - View-Go to-News.

Outlook has a sub-sub-level menu item. I like having a menu item at the
top-level. But that is MY taste. not yours. As I said in my post, "Here is
ONE way to do it...". Any one who has taken a course in programming knows
that there is always more than one way to accomplish the same thing.

By the way, the designers of Outlook took the various tastes of its users
into account when they designed the ability to create a new top-level "News"
entry. Too bad YOU fail to do the same thing.

Hé keep it easy. Gordon just described the easiest (built-in) way for
MichaelH. Your answer is correct as well but it's not the default. If he
doesn't like the default he can always ask for a way to customize it and
your answer would be perfect.
