What do you want to discuss about commercial software?

If you have a particular package in mind there might be a group for it.
(EG: There is a group for the Agent newsreader)

If there isn't a group for *that* package there might be a group that deals
with all apps that do similar things. (EG there is a group for newsreaders
in general)

If that app is used by a particular profession they might allow discussion
of apps in their groups, eg accounting groups sometimes talk about Sage.

I'll admit I don't really understand your question.

This one is active:

alt.comp.shareware.authors

By the name, you can guess, it's authors discussing common author concerns;
eg marketing, registration, piracy, installers, etc. Nevertheles, from what
I have seen, when someone wanders in looking for a type of sofware, the
responses are friendly. OTHO, comparative reviews and so forth, as you see
here, that's not something I've spotted occur there.

I believe that's about it, really, when the category of software is not
defined. There is no software.general that is equivalent to a.c.freeware.

Outside of netnews. If you think you can tolerate Yahoo, then there is a
moderate-sized discussion group you might look at over there.

Aha!

Lurk in the group:
<and do try Google search.

Once you've got the hang of the group, and read any faqs that got posted,
make an introductory post.

Then, once you've done that, try making one post with your request.

Give it a good subject line, and include as much useful information as
you can.

You'll need to include what you mean by "web based help system", and how
your projects would launch that, and if you have any platform preference,
and if it needs to be html or php or java or whatever.

If you haven't got a clue yet, well, try saying that and asking if anyone
there has done anything similar.
