Why am I seeing mostly replies and not the original posts? All other
newsgroups are working correctly but in this group I seldom see the original
post, only the replies to it.

Much the same here, using the SeaMonkey (Mozilla) news client, and the
number count of UNread messages is always incorrect until the group is
opened. This has been a problem with GENERAL for many months.

Occasionally UNread counts are wrong in the HARDWARE_DEVICES group as
well, but several others are normal.

Likely a problem at the server end, as we both see similar behavior but
use different news clients.

I'm seeing the same thing. Most new threads start with replies.

Have you downloaded the full newsgroup? It's a busy newsgroup with a large
number of posts and some long threads. Make sure your newsreader isn't
limiting the number of headers downloaded or cutting off at a certain date
etc. etc.

Also, for this newsgroup, check the Account settings and make sure to use
the Microsoft newsgroup servers directly:

In OE, Tools, Options, Read tab, uncheck Get xxx headers at a time.
This group is getting many posts.

I am not seeing messages starting with Re:.

I unchecked that hours ago, and just clicked the group again to get new
posts, and 9 of the top 12 threads start with Re:

That means there are 3 replies to every question.
Your post was the 5th reply to this question, so it is already above the
average.

What's happening, seemingly, is that intermediate posts are not seen.
I.E.: This thread shows only three posts - Loopy's original, my reply
and your reply - as quoted above.

I also note significant holes in the timeline. Viewing "all messages"
lists no posts between 8:26 and 3:47 - with many more "REs" than would
be expected. Of course that's not possible.

So you didn't see Saucy lemon's reply from 10:58 AM?
