nothing insecure per se with using OE to read news.


Newsgroups worked fine with IE6
 
Lou, based on the sophistication and experience of the many people who use
OE within this newsgroup, I find your argument somewhat weak. These people
(and I am not one of them) have never once cautioned against using OE on the
basis of security. In my own experience with OE, avoiding th occasional post
with an attachment, a flaky header and huge byte size is easy enough to do.
Other than those rare malicious posts, there is no more risk and FAR more
convenience and functionality in using OE to read newsgroups. Besides, when
one set of servers malfunctions, the other is bound to be up and running,
thus avoiding the "Not Available" situation.
 
I've been using OE since Win 95, subscribing to, and downloading NG's
for offline reading, and never had a problem.
