I have absolutely no clue as to what newsgroups are and how to use them.

Somewhere during my `Net surfing, I spotted this group and it caught my eye
because I have Windows XP.

Now all I need is how and where to get started, lol.

Is there a list of groups somewhere that is safe for us XP users to select
from?
What are our security options, tools, etc.?
Exactly what do we use newsgroups for?

Appreciate even the tiniest scrap of help and info.

Thanks,

Pat S.

Welcome, Patricia,

There are thousands of newsgroups and each one focuses on a single subject.
This one focuses on Microsoft Access, part of Microsoft Office. Access is
used for creating databases. Scan through a few posts to get a feel. Users
of Access post questions to the newsgroups and volunteers from newbies to
gurus who feel they can contribute to the question respond. What you see
here is a long list of questions, the poster and the date posted. A box to
the left of a question indicates there has been at least one response to the
post. Click on the box to read the response(s). Posts are only held in the
newsgroup for a period of time; the more posts to the newsgroup, the less
time posts are held. Posts are removed from the newsgroup by a FIFO process.
Actually they do not go into oblivion but they are archived. You can view
archived newsgrroup posts at www.groups.google.com.

Write back and tell us what email client you are using and somebody here can
give you more detailed information about how to setup to "subscribe" to
newsgroups.

This newsgroup is for new users of Microsoft Access, a desktop database.
There are 20K+ user groups for every conceivable topic. Do a Google search
on the topic you want and set the search to "Groups". If your using Outlook
Express as your mail reader, it also will handle the news groups offered by
your ISP.

There are many, many thousands of newsgroups: groups of people discussing a
particular topic. You have ended up in
microsoft.public.access.gettingstarted which concerns the Microsoft database
application called Access. In other groups it may be different, but here,
people with no idea of databases (newbies) get people with ideas, but no
job, (nerds) to do their work for them. For free! It's a bit like getting
the brainy dork to do your homework for you when you were at school - except
this time no physical violence is necessary!

P.S. If you liked it here, then why not try
"microsoft.public.access.modulesdaovba"
