alright, just to let you all know, i've looked for this problem in the group and i found a few resolutions. i tried everything from the registry entry do resetting to pretty much everything... unfortunately, i have had no success

does anyone else have any ideas on how to get the "news" item back under "go"

is this a bug? will there be a patch out there to correct the problem soon?

Rather hard to say when you don't specify what you tried.
This works for nearly everyone if done correctly:
To get the News command back, go back to the Programs tab in Control Panel |
Internet Options and change the default newsreader to Outlook Express. If
OE prompts you to make it your default newsreader the next time you launch
it, clear the "Always perform this check..." box and then click the No
button.

In other words, make sure you set OE as the default in Control Panel, but
NOT within OE itself. That's what causes the problem.
