Dealing with MS office 2003 on XP Pro is certainly an adventure!

In my Outlook 2003 I wanted to be able to go directly to newsgroups. I
followed the instructions in Help to put News on the Go menu. The first
time I tried it, it brought up the Outlook Express interface with my
newsgroups in it. The next time I tried it, News didn't even appear in the
Go menu until the Inbox had the focus. I selected News and up jumped the
1033 folder. After that, News goes away in the Go menu until I re-start
Outlook.

I waited until I thought I had to move to XP Pro and MS Office 2003 from W2k
and Office 2000, and sometimes I sure wish I hadn't.

Can anyone explain this behavior (re. News Reader)?

Thanks,
Dave

To get the News command back, go back to the Programs tab in Control Panel |
Internet Options and change the default newsreader to Outlook Express. If OE
prompts you to make it your default newsreader the next time you launch it,
click the "Don't ask me again" box and then click the No button.

You may need to reset the menu or toolbar using Tools, customize.

Yeah -- it's a bug. <g> Try the following -- it seems to work for many:

To get the News command back, go back to the Programs tab in Control Panel |
Internet Options and change the default newsreader to Outlook Express. If OE
prompts you to make it your default newsreader the next time you launch it,
clear the "Always perform this check..." box and then click the No button.
You may need to reset the Menu Bar and/or restart Outlook and/or reboot your
machine in order to complete the process.

doncha just luv it...

News isn't even available to be added to the Go menu now. I have unchecked
the OE ask about default box and told it not the be default. Under the
programs tab on Internet Options, Outlook isn't even available to be
selected for NewsReader.

Makes Linux and OpenOffice look better every day. ;-)

Is my next step to do a repair installation on Office?

Thanks,
Dave

Of course not, since Outlook doesn't "do" news. It uses OE, so you have to
select OE in the Newsgroups dropdown instide IE's options.
