The /newsonly switch doesn't seem to work for Windows Mail as it did for
Outlook Express. It would open Outlook Express without all the e-mail
options so as just to display things that are relevant to Usenet.

Is there some other way to get this functionality back or have we just lost
it?

TIA

Try

"C:\Program Files\Windows Mail\WinMail.exe" /news

Assuming C is the system drive.

along the same lines.. before upgrading to Vista I was able to type
news://msnews.microsoft.com into IE and it would fire up my default news
reader (outlook express) is there some way of doing this now with Windows
Mail (which I only use for reading news .. as I have outlook)

thanks Kevin

Go to Control Panel > Default Programs > Set Associations

This dialogue box is a massive improvement on the XP Folder Options box.

Right at the bottom there are the Protocols. Make sure NEWS is set to
Windows Mail.

Looks like the email options are still available though.

Try

/outnews

or

/newsonly

I've been using the /outnews switch since you mentioned this, and also added
it to my server, from which I have been gradually moving OE duties off.

I've just noticed that it works better in OE. The inbox and junk emal
folders still show in WM.

This program is not finished.
