Has anyone gotten a userid and password lately; I've emailed them several
times since they changed the name and will get the first response
acknowledging my request with a note that these things are done by hand and
it will take a while. Tried my old userid and password from the previous
name and it doesn't work. :(

My old userid and password work well also with the new individual.net.
Remember however to put a valid email address in your server settings for
news.individual.net: they require it.

Yes; several weeks ago, I abandoned my old news.individual.net account,
set up a new email address, and applied for a new news.individual.net
account from that new email account. They confirmed my request
immediately and emailed me with the new account information 4 days
later. Perhaps you need to set up a new email account and apply from
there.

All I had to do was go to tools > accounts > select properties on the old news server > and change the name to "news.individual.net". HTH

OK thanks. I may have done the unthinkable, not reading the faq and faking
my email addy. Yikes.

Hi Andy,

I got an account a couple of weeks ago, as backup for my isp newsserver
.... it only took a few days and I haven't had any trouble connecting.
That's really weird that they aren't even answering your emails!

Thanks, Maria. This thread was a major mystery to me, until I got to your
answer.

.. . .

Btw, those not familiar with the Berlin server's policy about posting
with a non-munged email address, that would leave them left to their own
theories about the proliferation of thousands of (e-mail address removed) posters.
I've wondered if we look sort of like a usenet Borg club.

Wow, I'm impressed, 'cause I always wonder whether what I write in English
is understandable or not :)

Well, I too always wonder whether what I write in English - my mother
language - is understandable or not. Not just my typos, but sometimes
outputting jangled, klutzed sentences that are like 95 words long.

Now, everything I've seen \you\ write, here in a.c.f., it's been direct
and clear.

But elsewhere? For all I know, maybe in Italian, you ramble on the way
I do in English -- wild and messy sentence formations totally unleashed.

LOL! You have to ask it to my husband... ;))

I've used a munged address with them for years. Key is to put the
corrupter in front of the @ , rather than after it. Granted, that's not
the proper way to do it, and you need to make sure you don't use
anything that could actually be a legitimate userid, and yes, it's
against their policy, but it works. Besides, if they wanna track you
down or pull the plug, it's easy enough for them to do -- your user id
number with them is appended to the headers of every message you send
through their server.
