Outlook never has and probably never will support NNTP (network news
transfer protocol). Outlook's primary customerbase are corporations and
they aren't interested in supporting newsgroups, just e-mail in Outlook.
Outlook is a business e-mail client. Outlook Express is a personal-use
e-mail client and also handles NNTP (Outlook Express used to be called
Microsoft Internet Mail & News and why its executable is still called
msimn.exe). There is a News menu button in Outlook but guess what it
does? It opens Outlook Express to do NNTP.

If you have dire need to incorporate NNTP support directly within
Outlook, there are plug-ins that you can buy that will do that, like
Newshound. But since OE is almost always present anywhere there is
Outlook, why pay for a plug-in when you already have a free newsreader,
or can get others for free?

Plus the fact that in my experience, having tried most of the common ones,
the Outlook add-ins are never as good as a proper newsreader - including OE!
