News from where?

I just got broadband for the first time - Comcast. I can't find anything
about news subscriptions. I'm on here now through my dial-up connection.

How do people get news when on broadband?

Thanks

Hello Jim:

Comcast stopped their own NNTP feed from Giganews long ago. Their
motivations are debatable, but their published stance was "to protect
the children".

However, every NNTP server (free or paid) is available to you through
Comcast.

Try Googling for the servers. Many will mention Giganews,
eternal-september, aioe, and many fine others. Editorializing: Please
don't use Google Groups as many of us filter the GG out for spam
protection.

Best wishes,

Pete

This server is good (and free) for text newsgroups:

Thanks, guys. Problem solved. I tried it once before but it didn't work
then - I just now got news by trying it again. All I did was uncheck where
the properties said, "Always connect to this account using:" Then the
servers I was getting through dial-up came up on the broadband connection.
It just bypassed my old dial-up source.

Odd that it didn't work the first time I tried it.

Thanks

Comcast no longer offers this. I use http://www.astraweb.com/ I paid the $10 for
25gig over a year ago and finally used one gig. I subscribe to two binary groups.
