News connection disappeared

I have been successfully using a news server for about a year when today it
asked for authentication. I entered the username and password (confirmed as
being correct direct with the news server website) but nothing worked - tried
with and without the server logon option. I deleted the account, reinstated
it and set it up with the wizard. It still wants authentication despite
trying the various server options - what next?

On the Sever tab of the account properties did you check the box "This
server requires authentication"?
