You are correct.
The contacts folder is the default contacts folder in the
mailbox of a user who I am currently logged on as. To
get it to appear in the address book I had to enable it
(by right-clicking and choosing "show this folder as an
Outlook address book").
If I create a new contacts folder (called TESTCONTACTS)
at the root of the mailbox, enable it as an Outlook
address book and create a new contact (called MIKE) in
it, it shows MIKE in the address book (which is fine and
what I would expect). If I now try to copy and paste the
problematic contacts info from the default contacts
folder into TESTCONTACTS then these don't show up in the
address book view, only my newly created one (MIKE) shows.
Like I said, I think it's to do with these contacts being
created using Outlook Webmail, which for whatever reason
doesn't show them in the Outlook address book view.
Hope this clears things up a little.
Mike.

Just so I'm clear, when you select "Contacts" in the "Show Names from the"
dropdown, you see nothing in the Outlook Address Book, right? And this
Contacts Folder is stored where and created how?

I see a list of all our Exch 5.5 containers and:
Outlook Address Book
Contacts
This shows the contents (ie. the contacts) of the
Contacts folder in Outlook. The problem I have is the
contacts don't show here. Yet there are lots of contacts
in the contacts folder.

When you open the Outlook Address Book, what do you see
in the "Show names
from the ..." dropdown?

We have already done this. We can view the contacts
folder as an Outlook address book, it just doesn't
display anything. There are lots of contacts in the
contacts folder but they aren't visible when viewing
the
contacts folder as an Outlook Address book.
I think the problem lies with the contacts being
created
in Outlook Webmail but now even if I add a contact in
Outlook XP it doesn't display in the address book.
Can you suggest anything else?

Go to Tools > E-mail accounts > View or change
existing
directories or
address books > Outlook Address Book. If it is not
listed, back up one step
and add it. If it is, then click on Change. to make
sure
the Contacts
folder(s) you want to display are listed. You may need
to enable the
Contacts Folder as an e-mail address book by R
clicking
the Folder >
Properties and check the "Show this folder as an E-
mail
address book" box.
Make sure you restart Outlook after making these
changes.

We have a problem with one of our users whereby
their
contacts (which were input using Outlook Webmail)
appear
properly in Outlook XP but when viewing the address
book
they do not appear at all.
When I look at the contacts folder in Outlook XP,
the
contacts are all displayed and look fine. When I
go to
the address book and choose to look at the contacts
I
don't see anything. Any new contacts I create
(whether
in Outlook XP or Outlook Webmail) also do not appear
from
the address book.
We have installed all the latest service packs and
patches and the problem is still there.
The Microsoft support article Q268565 suggests
opening,
changing some details and saving the contact
again. I
tried this through Outlook and Webmail and it
doesn't
help.
Can anyone help.
Mike.
