for awhile i could read notifications from the groups here by clicking the
email link, now i can't, it says done, with nothing there.

so i went into OE chose to download newgroups, after the longggggg list, i
picked a few but some were in french, spanish etc, I don't need all these
coming over, i don't have time to look at all this stuff.

I just want to read the post to my questions to microsoft help communities,
i tried posting the address from the email link into the browser but that did
not help.

So i don't understand newsgroup and would not even attempt to try to join
another newsgroup, seems difficult, just want to read problesm with my
computer

You downloaded the list. Now you have to "subscribe" to your choice group(s).

So do you mean I have to look at all those messages and choose to suscribe?
I just entered the msnnewgroups in the news box, and now i could click on the
link to this page, but do i have to read all of those posts to suscribe to
anything else.

thanks for quick reply

You do not have to read any messages in order to subscribe to a newsgroup.
In fact - you really don't read any until you are subscribed.

Choose the one(s) you are interested in and click on subscribe - one by one.
If in a language other than your native (you'll know by the name) - don't
subscribe to that one.

This link tells us which groups you have posted to:

http://groups.google.com/groups/search?hl=en&q=author:[email protected]

These groups include:

microsoft.public.windowsxp.security_admin
microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress
microsoft.public.windowsxp.general
microsoft.public.security.homeusers

These are the only groups for now you need to subscribe to.

Open any of these groups, press Ctrl+H, and you will see only the posts
you have participated in (you can toggle back and forth between this
view and the standard view).

First you built a Newsgroup account in outlook. But You got this far
and are posting, how did you post, someone elses machine? or on yours?

In general, unlike mail, you are broadcasting a message to the world,
not a person. Yes you reply to specific items, but like a cork board at
the shopping center, everyone sees these and can comment on them. And
much like that, you have no idea of who is looking and commenting on them.

Al, if you look at his headers, you will notice this line:

X-Newsreader: Microsoft CDO for Windows 2000

That means (for now) he's using the user-unfriendly Web interface. :-(

I don't look at the 'behind the scenes' that much, thanks. Good thought.

You build a news account in outlook just like you build one for email.
But they are 2 different accounts.
See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/171164
Once you have it setup, you download the group list so you can see what
groups interest you. Then you subscribe to as many as you wish to
monitor. When done and back to the main screen you'll see your news
account and the groups you've subscribed to. Clicking on a group should
download the headers of the messages for that group. You can then read
any you want.
I use Thunderbird for email/news. And all this setup kinda walks you
through it automatically. Once you setup the account its obvious you
need to get the group list since you have no idea of the groups, and
once you get the list, you have to subscribe... I mean, why did you go
to all this work in the first place right? Thunderbird and maybe
outlook should do pretty much the same. Still you might have to do
it yourself if it doesn't.

Note. All this you can do without writing a single message. You can
monitor / read the groups for years and no one knows the diff. I
suggest you do that. See what's going on.
If you mark messages (see your menu or right click on a message) as
read, you can filter unread mesages to keep the list short.

Unlike email, you can't delete move messages. This is a public posting
system and nobody "owns" the messages, they are public

This is pretty basic. Your provider should have specific directions
as to how to do this. Or at least the setup part.
