Does anyone know of the newest baddest virus to watch out for?
Well Stefano,
I don't know about this virus being so new, but yes - its a virulent little
pest called HEF ( Human Error Factor)
HEF is largely responsible for about 85% of all known PC problems and
maladies, which arise out of doing completely ****ed up, stupid things
before asking someone whether they should - or not. HEFs come in all
varieties from the n00b class, on up to the "expert" class.
In fact, many variants of HEF are often seen propagating over in
support.microsoft.com newsgroup forums. In my time lurking there and
posting, I've seen some new and exciting ways some HEF variants have nearly
suceeded in destroying an otherwise perfectly good running PC.
Example 1:
A HEF variant had a seemingly great idea to copy their WinXP files off their
30GB system drive, format the drive, and then copy everything back onto the
drive - figuring thats how they'd to do a "clean install" without an XP CD.
I mean... will wonders ever cease?
Like - why didn't I think of doing that when I lost my XP CD!!?? Brilliant
I tell you ... Brilliant!
Example 2:
Another HEF variant presented to Windowsxp.general reporting their PC seemed
to be running awfully slow all the time. An examination of their posting
revealed they were performing vigorous maintenance to include running Chkdsk
/f everynight religiously without fail.
Between that, and the constant background virus scanning, spyware scans,
defrags - and other senseless crap HEF was probably doing, its little wonder
they could be productive - if at all. (eyes roll)
Aside from it giving new meaning to obsessive-compulsive disorder, I believe
Microsoft should hire this HEF as a beta tester for some of its less than
predictable product lines. Live One Care could get a Jane Fonda workout
prior to HEFs overworked harddrive frying.
