Hi,

is there a newer verison of MSAS available ? I received a
pop up message asking " there is a newer version of MS
anti-spyware, would you like to install it " This is
strange because my computer just received before this pop-
up message an automated update from MSAS. Can anybody
clarify if this pop-up message is from Microsoft or from
some malicious spyware ?

I did answer yes to install this so-called newer verison
of MSAS. If this turned out to be a malicious program, how
can I check what info of my computer may have been
compromised by hacker ?

Thanks for help...

I have received this same update notification. Upon
clicking [OK] the update process goes through the motions,
downloading the new .exe and installing. However, my
application still reports the older version - Help/About...

Microsoft AntiSpyware Version: 1.0.501
This version expires on: 07/31/2005
Current User: 67GTV
Spyware Definition Version: 5731 (7/1/2005 8:13:50 AM)

I have read many posts on the 5729 to 5731 update
problems. But I have not seen other posts addressing this
application version issue. I originally installed this
application under my user name, which has Local Admin
authority.

Any assistance with this issue would be greatly
appreciated! I'd hate to have to go through a manual
uninstall/re-install on our user's desktops. Note: it was
NOT my decision to roll out Beta software to corporate end
users! ;)

Yes, there is a newer build available (614), its a refresh update that fixes
a few glitches in the beta 1 release. Please check the following link to

I am aware of build 614. However, the update function
from 501 to 614 does not work on several of our PCs.

Its not guranteed working feature, remember, its beta, and you are running a
..501 build, a lot of things can factor into why its not working. Your best
recommendation right now is to just download it manually:
