Can I use the USPS instead of UPS?

My return will be $5.50 less if I use the USPS instead of UPS

Yes

I've returned stuff to NewEgg by USPS

as a matter of fact I use USPS for most of my shipping

I generally just ship everything "parcel post"

as it's cheap.   Don't think I;ve ever had a problem

Thanks!

If you do, plan on spending the extra $0.75 (IIRC) to get delivery
confirmation. It is always good if you can prove that the package was
delivered in case they ask questions. Recently I've used USPS for returning
small items like memory sticks to Crucial and a keyboard to Enermax and it
has worked well. It might not be so great for large heavy items.

On the other hand, I have to wonder how USPS cost so much
less, unless the shipment was not shipped cheapest way by
another courrier.

The USPS has letter carriers going to every address every day, so having them deliver small packages does not add greatly to their expense.

The USPS also doesn't have to turn a profit for it's shareholders.
