Please help, in return ask me a hardware question, my speciallity!!!!

Hello Can someone tell me if i need Active directory?? I need to access more
than 10 computers for Seti at home machines, they need to be able to be
accessed though VNC (already set up).

I need to be able to share files and printers. I only have 9 client
machines. They are ALL Updated Win2000 pro machines.

My Server runs Windows 2000 advanced server. All fully updated (including
the new ones) I have not set up Active directory as i dont have a DNS like
microsoft.com!!! Should i get a private web site do to this?? Should i get a
static IP from My ISP?? or can i use my router for a static IP
(193.168.1.1)????? Please help, in return ask me a hardware question, my
speciallity!!!!

You don't need AD, but managing a workgroup is a pain so it will make things
easier.

You don't _need_ to register a domain name, you can simply make one up and
use it, although it is recommended that you register your domain name.

You don't require an external static IP, and should use an internal IP range
like 192.168.100.0/24 or whatever.

You DO need to ensure that all clients ONLY point to the Windows DNS server
and that that server forwards external requests to your ISPs DNS server.
