Hope someone can help. I am trying to get access to the remote desktop feature on my server at home from work. My problem is that when I try to get access using a vpn it states that it is not responding.

My setup is:
Server Win XP Pro using IIS
Linksys befdsr41w
Static IP address.

I have tried all things that I can find. The manual for the linksys states that it allows PPTP, but do I need to open any ports?

Most Appreciated

Well, first of all you don't need to use a VPN in order to use Remote Desktop.

You do need TCP Port 3389 (Remote Desktop) open on the router and if you want to use the web based
method then TCP Port 80 (IIS) must also be open. Personally, I think your complicating the issue by
using IIS.

If you do want to use the web based method then you need to...

1. Have IIS configured for Remote Desktop and running on your PC.
2. Make sure your ISP does *NOT* block TCP Port 80 (IIS).

If you want to also use a VPN then both TCP Port 1723 must be open and "PPTP Pass Through" must be
enabled on your router.

In addition to the other reply -

1) Does RD work while you're on the LAN at work?
2) Are you getting a successful VPN connection? Can you ping the server by
its internal IP address?
