I am planning the purchase of a Shuttle XPC sn41g2 (AMD socket A) and a
AMD 2800. When purchasing the 2800, do I purchase the naked chip or do I
need the boxed kit (with the fan). From what I have read, the Shuttle
appears to have built heat convection architecture, meaning I just need
the chip. I would just like to confirm this. Thanks

Hi,

All the Shuttle XPC have their own heatsink/fan combination that also
incorporates a fan extracting hot air from inside the cpu, you just need the
bare cpu which will work out slightly cheaper than the retail boxed kit.

Cheers

really appreciate it. - Lou

We've built a bunch of Shuttle boxes over the past year, and the OEM
version without the fan will do the job for you. HOWEVER, we usually
buy the retail version because of the warranty. On newegg.com for
exsample the oem version is 113 and the retail vesion is 121 but the
retail version as a 3 year warranty and the oem version typically has a
30 day or 90 day warranty.

Just built another dozen Shuttle boxes and this is what we have done, retail
CPUs for the warrranty. The Shuttles have their own cooling systems.

Just got to find a use for all those CPU fans now :-)
