Hi All

Setup RAS on a Win2000 server and I can dial into it but if I try and browse
the network I get the "cached" version on this laptop. If I try and look at
a directory or computer not cached I get

"Network is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if
you have access permissions. The server is not configured for transactions"

As I am the Administrator and I think I set up RAS correctly I am not sure
where I should look to solve this. ANy help would be grateful.

THanks
Paul

The remote user usually can't browse the LAN. There are a number of
reasons why this fails, but usully the problem you describe - it uses its
local workgroup/domain name, not the name of the remote site.

You could try net view /domain:dname where dname is the domain name of
the remote site.

Another thing you can try is to connect using the "login using a dialup
connection" option. This logs you into the remote domain, rather than doing
a local login first.

Hi Bill

Thanks for the reply. Tried what you said and got this

The server is not configured for transactions.
More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 2141

Did what it said and got
The specified server is not configured to accept the command you typed.
ACTION
Ask you network administrator if the server is configured properly. The
administrator may choose to share the server's IPC$ resource to correct this
problem.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Paul

How exactly have tou configured this setup? Are you running a domain on
the LAN? Are you running WINS?

RAS is only a point to point connection, so you can't use broadcasts for
name resolution or browsing. Browsing a LAN remotely requires WINS, and
usually only works reliably if the remote does a "login using dialup
connection", not a local login first.
