If this question has been asked before in this group,
I am unable to locate it in Google's usenet archives.

Between 2.4C-P4-800FSB and 3.06-P4-533FSB, (both with
HT-supporting chipsets) is there a significant difference
in performance? Any upgradabililty considerations? Is
there much to choose between 333DDR and 400DDR given
the price differential?

I'm a first-time PC builder, been through all guides.
Yet, I'm a little worried because I intend to build a
"high-end" system and blow a good amount of money
(upwards of $1300 in India, where prices are higher).
Any advice/precautions?

Thanks in advance,
HR

Now someone correct me if I am wrong here... But last I checked the
difference to go from a 333MHz bus memory to a 400MHz bus was price. The
performance difference was negligible, and considering the price difference
it wasn't really worth it. However the difference between the two
processors you have listed
the speed difference was noticible. While you could go for a 2.4 800FSB
there isn't alot out there taking advantage of that as of yet. My
preference would be to spring for the 3.06. However I must admit I have
ALWAYS been an athlon fan. Hope this helps.

I have a buddy that runs a P4 3GHz @522MHz. Performance-wise, our systems
are similiar. I run the P4 2.4C with DDR400. But, he's running RAMBUS.
He, also, is running a 9500pro while I am running a 9700 overclocked to pro
speed. I don't think you would be displeased with the performance of a P4
3GHz @533MHz and some good memory. Of course, it all depends on the
machine's intended use...

I can't answer which is better as I've only use 3 GHz machines while
browsing at computer stores; rather I can only report to you that my 2.4
with HT and 800 FSB with 3200 type DDR RAM is very fast. I use the IDE
harddrives from my old system and their performance is remarkably improved
with the new mobo and CPU.

My Red Alert game has to be turned down to four because it plays too fast.
My Flight Sim works beautifully. My Corel processes quickly and my compiler
is snappy. MS Word starts up within a second.
