Can anyone point me in the direction of tips to help me get rid of this
thing off my infected machine or at least allow me to use regedit?

I took a look at this last night and they point you to one of thier tools.
Unfortunately that just showed a still picture of what looks like a cine
film.
I've no idea what that indicates. Maybe because my Symantec subscription has
expired? Virus stopping the .exe running?
Is the normal way of getting rid of Swen via AV software or is it best to
get regedit working and manually do it?
I'm afraid I'd never even heard of Swen till last night but presumably this
subject has been discussed at length.
TIA

Ah yes! I should right click on the .exe link instead of left. Swen now
gone. Thanks.

google is your friend. Someone on the XP NG has a set of utilities (task
manager, regedit, etc) modded so that most viruses don't find/kill them
... I've forgotten who but it might well be
http://www.dougknox.com/index.html .. if not, as I said, Google is your
friend. (I've assumed you're running XP since you didn't say).

It depends what machine you're running. Find a computer which is not
infected and check out this:

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/[email protected]

Read what it says, then download the Swen removal tool on a floppy, print
the removal instructions for your OS and go home and apply the fix e x a
c t l y as stipulated in the instructions.

Good luck,

Mick

I did this and it looks as though it's got rid of it. I didn't even need to
use another PC.
I'm running 98.
