Hello,

Did my first ever scan today.

When the scanner software (Canoscan) shows a preview of a scan the
picture looks poor but the finished scan turns out ok.

is their a general standard setting within scanner software to improve
the preview image ?

Thanks.

Martin.

Probably not. Poor how? Too red, too dark, too fuzzy, too what?
The preview is a very quick low resolution image, not designed to show
detail, but only intended to give a rough overview of shape and tones.

I have a similar problem with the Canoscan software. For negs and
slides there is only one level of zoom (thumbnails versus full size),
which is still quite small. The colours shown in the preview window
also differ to the final scan which makes it very difficult to do
adjustments before the scan. I almost went mad trying to get the right
level of green on the first few negative scans since the graphics
software they supply doesn't offer colour correction.

BTW, if you're scanning documents or photos (not transparencies) then
you should be able to mark an area and click on the "Zoom" button to
rescan just that section.
