I downloaded over the weekend a windows media player video from the
internet. When I click on it, it says "aquireing information" then
quickly says "error downloading codec". It will then play the audio but

no video. I downloaded some codec's from some website but it did not
fix the problem. Am I missing something?

There is a program called GSpot which will analyse a video file,
and tell you what Codec is required to play that file. Get it here
www.headbands.com/gspot/

Start Gspot, and load your video file into it, and analyse it.

Yes, if it's actually a Windows Media file, you likely need
to download and install a newer version of the Windows Media
codecs. Get them from microsoft.com (search)
