I have 8 older Dell P2 450 & 550 & 2 P3 600 Dimesions all with window NT.
Is there a mobo and processer combo that I can purchase to upgrade some of
these machine to run XP? And maybe save a few buck instead of starting over
with all new. I should have plenty of extra parts between all theses
units.

Dell use a proprietary PSU and motherboard design. A standard ATX board
will not likely fit in the case properly. Even if it did, you wouldn't
be able to connect the dell PSU to it as the wires are organised in a
different order. Further, a standard ATX power supply probably would not
fit in the case properly.

Exactly, that is why "White Box" PCs are much cheaper than Dell, in
the long run. ...Besides all the other advantages. Like higher
quality, actual support & tech info available for your mobo,
videocard, BIOS, OS, hd etc, regardless configuration and what other
components you're using them with, ...or your tinkering.

....Never mind, - I just hate Dell.

Just for kicks...
when XP first came out I installed it in a P-233 with 128 megs of RAM...
although it was pretty slow...it actually did work...
so any 450mhz machine and up with 256 megs+ of RAM should do the job

I had WinXP Pro running on a PII 350 with 64 megs of ram and a 2 meg video
card...........until I upgraded the memory to 128 megs. It slams now!

I'd get more RAM in a slower system. I have 1n Athlon 1600 with 128
Meg, and works fin, but probably would work better with more.

The minimum memory for window XP is 64 megs. With 64 megs of ram XP will run
on ANY speed Pentium II.
