Hi,

I'm new to the whole macro/vb things and have a question.

I need to copy the contents of a contacts folder in the public folder, to my
own contacts folder in my mailbox.

How do I do this?? Is it easy?

I notice that in Word, I've the option to record a macro, but don't have
this in outlook (Shame, would make it nice and easy).

Thanks for any help

Stu

Is this a one-shot copy? Just select the public folder, use Ctrl+A to select
all the items in the folder and right-click on the selection and right-drag
it to the target folder. Select Copy when prompted when you release the
items. You don't need a macro for that.

No, unfortunately its not a one off, needs to be done a couple of time's a
week on about 8 user's PC's. Apparently copy'ing and pasting is too
complicated for my user's. :(

If the copying is done using code there will be no duplicate item checking,
you would have to code that entirely yourself. Deciding what constitutes a
dupe is the tough part of that.

There's a sample of what copying code would look like at
http://www.outlookcode.com/codedetail.aspx?id=371

See if that helps you get started.

Would it be easier if it didn't matter? I.E. Overwrite everthing?

Basically the contacts folder in the public folder's, is always up to date,
and I need a copy of this copied to their own contacts so when I sync a PDA
is has the latest and correct version.

It would not overwrite it would add duplicates. If an item existed
previously and was copied again you'd end up with 2 of those items and so
on. You'd have to delete all the existing ones and start from scratch. Of
course that would be a problem if there were items that weren't in the
public folder. So checking for duplicates could be very important.
