Im playing around with a small home network. I want to be able to run w2k as
a file server on my existing home network. Here is how its setup.

Machine #1 - Xp, 1- NIC
Machine #2 - Xp, 1-NIC
Machine #3 - Wk2 Advanced server

These all plug into a Netgear 314 Internet Access Gateway router. My DSL
line plugs right it in it signs me on automatically since my ISP is PPPOE.

Im pretty sure that all i need to do on the 2 clients is obtain everything
automaically?

When I got both machines up and running, was able to ping back and forth. I
was able to see my XP machines in the Workgroup I had setup.

For some strange reason I cannot see my shared w2k files. Nothing, it
prompts me for a user name and password. Do i need to setup my 2k machine to
be a Primary Domain controller? Did I miss anything?

Thanks for any help and bare with me, im learning the hard way =)

Not necessarily. With only 3 computers you can manage the user accounts
pretty easily. On the computer sharing the folder (Mac.#3) you need to set
up a user with the same username and password used to log into the computer
they will be accessing the share from (Mac #1&2). Then grant this account
permission to use the shared folder.
