I have a A7N8X motherboard, AMD 2700 CPU. My FSB is 166mhz. What does the
FSB really do and is 166 too low? Thanks

FSB is the speed the CPU communicates with the northbridge, the chip
right under or nearby the CPU, often with a heatsink on it. 166 is
not too low, is exactly right for that CPU. Any other speed would be
over or under clocking, something (based on your question) you should
learn more about before attempting to do so.
