Hi all , i've decied to built the bulliet and build meself a SHOS i've got
a query or question , depends on how you look at it. I've got a single
port DSL modem with built in firewall going to a 8 port switch being
accessed though 5 pc's running diffent operating system's 3 pc's
running win 2k ,1 running xp pro And the other Linux and a eithernet
printer for network printing . here's where the problem is i've just
bought a Dell poweredge 2650 server and want to use that as a email & web
server) i've got a hostname with dynsDns.org because my isp uses DCHP. how
do i set them all up? i know i give them all manual isp address and i can
disable the dchp server on the router.how can i keep the server on the
switch and not have the internal network sercity comprised but still
let outside access to the server & still have net access on the other
machines also forward the right ports to the right machine but still
mantain secirty on the network plus i dont know what os would be better
Win 2k server , win xp pro or win 2003 server if somebody could help me
out i would be most gratfull as i've never tock a task like this and need
to set it up for work

TIA

What OS is the server running? Is it Microsoft 2003 Server. If so then,
you can add another NIC to the server and set it up as a router between the
firewall and the workstations.
So you physical setup will look something like this.

ISP-----------|FireWall|-------------|Email/WebServer|-----------------|Switch
| -------Workstations/Printer

Where the Firewall can be setup with NAT mapping to the email/web server;
and the server can be setup to router the traffic from the workstations.

Of course this depends on the functionality of the firewall and whether is
can act as both a static and dynamic NAT router. This you can confirm with
your ISP.

I hope this helps.
