Hi all! I am trying to use such device on my Windows98se system.
I connected its PCI SCSI (Canon AVA-2904E) card: not detected (didnt appear in
the i/o list)
Changed for a 'SCSI PCI 8100S Symbios Logic 53C810', Windows provided driver.
I installed CanoCraft v3.6.6 from Canon site.
So far, so good, but (you know there is one) I keep getting an error msg:
0x80210000 no scanner found
I tried rotating the SCSI ID switch at the rear of ths FS2710, swapping the SCSI
connector: no success.
In the I/O list, there is a yellow question mark on a device named Canon
IX-27025E. Do I need another driver ?
Any help ?

Disconnect the scanner.

Remove the yellow question marked Device in Device Manager, reboot.

You may need the correct Driver for the AVA-2904 card, Windows 98 may not
have the correct driver.
http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/su...soft+Windows+98&filekey=7800_fms303_disk1.exe

If the above long link breaks:
Your shorter link is: http://makeashorterlink.com/?Z15C2697B

Disconnect the scanner.
Remove the current (wrong) scsi driver. (Remove in Device Manager) Reboot
computer. Install this download. Reboot.

Set the SCSI ID switch on the scanner to 2 unless you have a SCSI device 2,
then choose another ID. ID 7 is reserved, do not use. ID 0 and ID 1 are
reserved for Hard Drives.
Do not change the ID after the scanner is recognized.

You have installed the Scanner TWAIN driver haven't you.
It is best to get the latest driver.

Support for the FS2710:
http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=SupportDetailAct&fcategoryid=235&modelid=8234

After the TWAIN driver is installed, reboot once more.

Shut down the computer. Connect the SCSI cable, Check the termination ON if
there is one. Power the scanner from a separate power from the computer,
turn scanner on. Start the computer.

Windows 98 should now detect the scanner and install hardware.

After the hardware is installed Open the TWAIN in a TWAIN compliant Photo
Editor. File>Select Source if one exits in the photo editor. Then
File>Import or File>Acquire.

Disconnect the scanner.

Remove the yellow question marked Device in Device Manager, reboot.

Done

Not done, the ava-2904 is not detected, neither bios nor windows
I changed to Symbios Logic 53C810 PCI card

I downloaded CanoScan 3.6.4. Install went ok. Scanner is recognized.
CanoScan application sees it, diags it ok
BUT: whenever I request a preview or a scan (of a slide), the scanner is
activated, I can see the slide move, the scan light but after a while, operation
always ends with the msg: (translated from french) "SCSI error, device not
connected or power off, error 0x80210000". In addition, the "progress" windows
never change"
By the way, how can I see (windows98se) if twain drivers are installed ?

Did you download and install the above driver?
You may have to remove the old (wrong) SCSI driver first.
Not done, the ava-2904 is not detected, neither bios nor windows
I changed to Symbios Logic 53C810 PCI card

The Adaptec AVA-2904 SCSI Card uses a Adaptec 7800 Family Chip it is NOT a
Symbios Logic 53C810.
You may have to get a different SCSI card with driver for Windows 98SE.

Windows 98 is supposed to have ASPI installed, if there is not a ASPI layer,
SCSI scanners are not detected by the OS but the SCSI card is seen.

To get a ASPI layer download from Adaptec.
http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/su...roduct/ASPI-4.70&prodkey=Windows+ASPI+Package

Direct link to download:

Does not seem the SCSI card is getting the correct command.
By the way, how can I see (windows98se) if twain drivers are installed ?

Look in C:\Windows\Twain_32\ScannerName\ there will one or more files, one
will be a .ds.

Or with any TWAIN capable Photo editor, the File>Select Source will list the
TWAIN data source for all that are installed.
